Mike Steegmans is a professional photographer with over 25 years of experience. He now focuses mainly on his art projects, after a career of mostly working for magazines and brands, primarily in action sports, portraits, travel photography, and model shoots.

After his studies at a film school in Brussels, his focus started to shift towards photography. Things started rolling after magazines and companies bought his snowboarding pictures. At that point, traveling and shooting photos became a full-time job.

In early 2004, a major Belgian magazine asked him to shoot a swimsuit special in a ski resort. This proved to be his launchpad for model and fashion shooting.

From his movie background, Mike kept the idea and feeling that a picture needs to be more than a pretty postcard; it needs soul, a story of some kind. This is still visible in his current work: underwater, it is very hard to stage a scene to perfection, as he always has to adapt to the weather, currents, and so on.

Clients include: Oxbow, Rip Curl, Volcom, Capara, Christian Wynants, Quechua, AS Adventure, Uniqlo, Qpinch, Pmagazine, Elle Belgium, Freeze, Scsmag, Snow Session, Fluid Snow, Snow Surf, Fidelity bags, Peach, Freddy Pants, Oxygen Snowboards, Imperium, Bacardi, Case Studyo, Pasar, Menzo, Ché Magazine, Just TV, and Sax Sunglasses.

Mike is based out of Antwerp and Catalunya in Spain.

EL BAILE DE LA MAR

Antwerpen, June 2024

"Baile" is all about being introduced to the sea, diving into it, and hoping to learn from it. It's about falling in love with it and wanting to protect it. It's about experiencing the feeling of floating and freedom when you're in the water and witnessing the beauty of the oceans and coexisting with them.

CURANDERA

Antwerpen, june 2025

The term Curandera, healer from ancient Latin American culture, originates from the word “curar,” which means to heal or cure.

This exhibition is an ode to the sea; to its healing power and the indispensable care it provides for both our planet and us. It highlights the rich nourishment it provides us, the vital air it purifies, the peace/turmoil it offers, the inexhaustible pleasure we derive from it, and the fascinating way in which the animals and plants in the sea live together in harmony.
